Public transport electrification: Scaling finance for global transport decarbonization

Location: Auditorium A, Business Pavilion, Blue Zone (Zone C, Area 5,  lot n. 118)
Host: WBCSD
Date: 17 November 2022
Time: 16:00–17:00 (EET)

Description: Electrification of public transit in cities represents a material opportunity to abate transport emissions, along with other segments. It can improve air quality, reduce noise, and initiate electrification of the transport sector while supporting the energy sector transition in emerging and developing economies. Accelerating the pace of electrification implies making the transition of these fleets attractive for institutional investors and sovereign funds, transforming pilots into large-scale transformative projects. Such an approach calls for new collaborative “trilateral” frameworks that will help aggregate and change the risk profile of these investments.

This session, in collaboration with the government of India and partners, will connect to the flagship sustainable transport initiatives announced by the Egyptian presidency and showcase best practices led by the Indian government on electric buses. It will also help mobilize governments and private sector stakeholders to collaborate on scaling the framework for accelerating the decarbonization of transport.
