U.S. agriculture as a climate solution

23 September 2020, 5:00 – 6:15 pm CEST / 11:00 am – 12:15 pm EDT

U.S. agriculture currently contributes 10.5% of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions. However, agriculture is unique in that it has the potential to sequester more carbon than it emits, becoming the first carbon positive sector. In fact, as a sector that involves 50% of the land mass in the U.S. and, along with the food sector, employs 11% of the U.S. population, U.S. agriculture has the potential to contribute significantly to achieving the SDGs. Part of NYC Climate Week and co-organized by the U.S. Farmers and Ranchers Alliance in Action and WBCSD, this session will focus on where the U.S. agriculture and food sectors have the greatest opportunities to mitigate climate change, provide dignified livelihoods, and support health and well-being, and how we can get started on them.
