Vision 2050: Time to transform – Briefing for Council Members

27 January 2021, 1:00 – 2:00 pm CET

WBCSD is currently working toward refreshing Vision 2050, originally launched a decade ago. A landmark piece of work, it established a new agenda for business, identifying clear market opportunities, highlighting the need for a series of transformations, and providing a pathway articulating the action areas and measures of success that would achieve the vision. Most importantly, Vision 2050 provided a strategic platform for dialogue about how to close the gap between the vision and a business-as-usual world.

40 member companies (of which 19 companies represented in the Council’s Executive Committee) are taking part in this effort, alongside a range of experts engaged as part of an External Review Committee. The desired outcome by the end of Q1 2021 is an ambitious and holistic narrative that paints a positive picture of an achievable future that businesses can see themselves in and are energized to work towards. Its specific time focus lies on the 2020-2030 decade, with the intent to drive change in company strategies and sustainability planning in line with the urgency and roadmap for action illustrated in the final product.

This virtual session, reserved for Council Members, will be chaired by WBCSD President & CEO Peter Bakker. It will share a “preview” of the final product and implications for business leadership and action in the face of the unique, but rapidly closing, window of opportunity for action that the next few years represent.
