Forest Investor Club: Collaborating for scaled investment in forest and nature

Date & time: 18 September 2023, 11:15 – 12:45
Location: Park Room – Nature Positive Hub, Convene 101 Park Avenue, New York

Nature-based solutions have the potential to achieve over one-third of the global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions needed to stabilize our climate, and to help mitigate global biodiversity loss and land degradation. Despite this potential, there is chronic underinvestment in the protection, restoration, and sustainable management of forests, other natural ecosystems, and working lands. A rapid scale-up of private sector investments in nature-based solutions is needed to if they are to achieve their full climate, nature, and social potential.

The Forest Investor Club (FIC), established by the U.S. Department of State and led by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), is a network of public and private financial institutions, corporates, and other investors committed to accelerating investments in forest and nature. FIC facilitates collaboration and partnerships to unlock and de-risk investment opportunities, improve access to pipeline, foster knowledge sharing, and identify and develop solutions to overcome investment barriers.

Hear from members of the Forest Investor Club on innovative investment approaches, and the role of partnerships in increasing the scale and scope of forest and nature investments. The session will also feature insights from the inaugural FIC Annual Report, which includes an overview of active forest investment-related initiatives, key investment barriers and lessons learned, and the role of FIC within this landscape, as well as case studies demonstrating different innovative investment strategies across a range of asset classes and risk profiles.
