Build back better: designing a future that leaves no one behind

23 September 2020, 3:00 – 4:00 pm CEST / 9:00 – 10:00 am EDT

COVID-19 has laid bare the vulnerability of the global economy to exogenous shocks. The immediate and ongoing health crisis may soon be eclipsed by the socio-economic implications it has catalyzed, which might yet be overshadowed by the climate crisis we face and will continue to face for decades to come. These waves of global crises intersect at various levels and cannot be addressed or resolved in isolation. While their causes are manifold, they share a common feature: they are underpinned and exacerbated by structural inequalities along the lines of race, gender, migration status and more. Comprehensive, concrete solutions are needed now to tackle all crises simultaneously and put people’s needs at the core. This break-out session of the SDG Business Forum, part of Uniting Business Live, will explore how we can advance inclusive approaches to tackle these intersecting crises, address inequality, increase resilience to future shocks and ultimately contribute to building back better and highlight the business role in this pursuit.
